| Dear BWP Members, |
If you haven't already seen it, we would love for you to check out our new website, www.belgianwarmblood.com. Many thanks to Maddy Carolan, Carolyn Rice and Julia Robinson for their great effort and time, designing and implementing our new website!
Also the 2009 keuring schedule has been finalized, which is included in this newsletter. We will have our online registration again this year, and would encourage everyone to utilize this to insure accurate and timely registration. Online registration will open the first or second week of May. |
| Annual Meeting in Belgium |
|
The annual BWP/NAD meeting took place in Belgium on Thursday January 15th at the Parkhotel in Kortijk. It was well attended with members & breeders from Nova Scotia, CT, AZ, CA, IN, MO, KS, KY and TX.
*Our registrar, Cheryll Frank, will now be managing the module for the BWP/NAD here in the US in hopes of generating our papers more timely and accurately. All registration data will be input in the U.S. prior to sending to Belgium who will continue to issue the passports. Cheryll Frank and SIRE will continue as BWP/NAD registrar for 2009.
*Boudewijn Schepers attended our meeting as the head stallion judge for the BWP in Belgium. He will head up our Stallion Committee in the states to assist with recruiting quality stallions for our registry, as well as oversee the development of our young stallions in performance. We will continue to revise our scoring systems to mirror Belgium. Foals will get two scores, movement and type based on a 100 point scale.
*We have a new officer position, Executive Director that will be a paid position. This officer will take over the position of Managing Director and Treasurer. Chris Sallee was nominated to fill this position for 2009.
*We are currently evaluating accepting the new 70 day test offered in the U.S. for our stallions. |

| Belgium Trip |
We had a very educational and fun trip to Belgium! Our first day, Dirk Demeersman rode and jumped the impressive stallion, Cicero Z Van Paemel, for our group over 5 foot oxers and verticals and through sheer talent and confidence w/out hands! We visited Zangersheide where Debby Verstappen took us on an extensive tour to see the clone of Chellano Z, visit their repro. lab and show us their latest repro. technology. We finished up day one by visiting Jos Lansink and his new sportstable which he had just moved into in December. He kindly took us on a tour of his new facility were we got to see Cumano, his lovely BWP mare Valentina, and several of his young stock, one of which was presented and accepted in the BWP Stallion Selection that week, Fin Fin E, by Chin Chin out of a Voltaire mare. The second day we visited Stud de Muze where owner, Joris de Brabander, showed us his very impressive embryo transfer operation. This is the home of Nabab de Reve, who was looking great for his age of 19yrs! He has produced great horses such as Up Chiqui, Narcotique de Muze, and Triomphe de Muze. From there we visited Luc Tilleman's studfarm where Toulon and full brother, Vancouver d'Auvray were bred. We rounded out our day at the Stable 't Merelsnest, Sapphire's breeders, where Bjorn Van Bunder showed off Sapphire's full sister and several siblings. The Van Bunder family welcomed us into their home with wonderful hospitality!
The 2009 BWP Stallion Selection was held at Zilveren Spoor in Moorsele again this year. Boudewijn Schepers, who was on our 2008 keuring tour, was head stallion judge. We had VIP treatment and seating from our wonderful hosts, BWP President, Carl Rijcken, BWP Vice President, Kris Keersmaekers & BWP General Secretary, Rudi Eerdekens. Pavarotti and son, Quintus, were honored as BWP Ambassadors.

Allyn McCracken got to present the 6yr.old BWP Champion, as BWP wanted to honor Allyn and all her hard work and dedication to BWP/NAD!
Over 30 young stallions were approved, including our own Etienne Van Muylem's 3yr.old stallion, Gauguin L (Padinus/Feinschnitt)! Two of our imported BWP/NAD stallions received Elite Stallion Status Amaretto d'Arco and Vancouver d'Auvray. All our breeders made great contacts for semen purchases and met wonderful breeders from all over Belgium. It was a great trip for everyone. |
